Unplugging Our Children

As the consistently good weather approaches, the amount of time we as a family spend watching tv diminishes to the point of almost non-existent; save for rainy days or when the kids are sick. As it is, we limit the kids to less than an hour per day, and try our hardest to not turn it on most days. That’s my way of stockpiling it for emergencies, emergencies which would constitute my needing 30 minutes just to think clearly without two chattering monkeys scrabbling at me. Since in the summer I can kick them outside for endless entertainment, the television is pretty much off.

And to remind myself why I suffer (hey, it IS easier just to dump your kids in front of the electronic babysitter, its a sacrifice on my part dammit) I enjoy reading these types of articles. It reminds me that the endless hours of crafts and reading and hands on parenting is worth it in the end.

I’m seriously considering getting rid of my tv for good. We’ve already been without cable for the last 4/5? years. It would be so nice to get rid of the tv altogether.
