Top Natural Cleaners Straight From Your Kitchen

Most people know about the uses of all the household items below, but its always good to have a master list of what they are, and what they can do. The last time I bought housecleaning products was 4 years ago when we moved into our new house, and I still have them. Granted, they are Melaluca, and they are supposed to be less toxic, plus they last forever. And I mean forever. Since you mix the concentrate with water, I still have enough tub/tile cleaner for another 4 years. Or it could be that I don’t clean my tubs enough. Yeeeah, that might be why.

Most of these items listed can safely be mixed together to form all sorts of cleaners, from bubbling ones that lift stains, to scouring ones that clean and stain remove.

Baking Soda (sodium bicarbonate): An all-purpose, non-toxic cleaner. Cleans, deodorizes, removes stains and softens fabrics. You can use it mixed with vinegar to clean out drains, lift stains from fabrics, and also can be used on carpets to of course, deodorize, but also when mixed with vinegar, left to bubble then dried and vacuumed, has removed coffee stains from my light colored carpets.

Cornstarch: Starches clothes if needed, and will also absorb oil and grease. You can put it on a grease spot on your carpet, let it soak up the grease, then vacuum it all up.

Lemon Juice: Cuts through grease and is a bleach alternative, can be used to remove stains from white clothes, but also coffee and tea stains from cups, and any other household stains. Can also be used to clean out garbages and give them a fresh scent.

Vinegar: (acetic acid): Cuts grease, removes stains and can be used in your laundry as a softener instead of a commercial fabric softener. Also has bacterial killing properties, I use it to disinfect everything plus clean mirrors, bathroom fixtures and windows, it is streak free.

Toothpaste: A mild abrasive, can be used on a cloth to remove crayon from walls, clean the white rubber on your running shoes, and get stains off your carpet and walls. It goes without saying that you should use white, not blue and green toothpaste to attempt these cleanings. :)

Salt: (sodium chloride): An abrasive, also soaks up grease and has disinfecting properties. Combine with lemon juice as a cleaner for brass and pewter, or use to clean spills in your oven. Let it sit on the spills, then wipe it away with a cloth, and perhaps a little water. Salt is great at getting burned food off pans, put a few tablespoons immediately in the pans.

It's amazing how a simple item in the kitchen can be very useful for cleaning! I give baking soda a thumbs up! and I didn't know that toothpaste can get stains off carpets and walls! Thanks for sharing this, it's always good to find "greener" and less costly alternatives!
