This was a joy to read because we love Julia Donaldson books, but in my opinion wasn’t as good as her classics. It is, of course, beautifully illustrated, and an adorable little story, but we are so in love with her older creations that this one just didn’t hit all the right notes for us. It might be because many of her other tales have such a bouncy beat to read to, that we as a family enjoy the cadences we develop while reading, this one I just couldn’t find the beat. If you are looking to start investing in her books, I would start with her older ones, not this.
Reading level:Ages 4-8
Page Count:40 pages
Publisher:Arthur A. Levine Books
What to expect: beautiful illustrations, a little fish having an adventure but nothing scary for small ones
Publisher’s synopsis: The little fish Tiddler comes late to school every day, but always with an elaborate excuse that entrances his classmates — and annoys his teacher! One day, as he’s thinking up his next story, a net sweeps him up and hauls him far away. How will Tiddler find his way home? All he has to do is follow the trail of his biggest, fishiest story yet!
For every parent or teacher who knows the boundless creativity of a perpetually late child, this book shows how to channel that energy into stories to be shared with friends and family. With a bouncy, bubbling rhyme . . .
. . . and vibrant undersea illustrations, THE FISH WHO CRIED WOLF is sure to become the next read-aloud favorite from the bestselling author-illustrator team behind THE GRUFFALO and ROOM ON THE BROOM.
