Summer Crafts: Making a Paper Plate Crown

ppfc6

Most of the crafts I write about are very, very simple, because I’ve never been a very crafty person. But that’s what I like about them: they’re effortless and are still so much fun for the kids!

Paper crowns are a perfect summer craft and they look great once they’re finished.

So here’s what you need to make one:

  • - 1 paper plate
  • -scissors
  • -glue
  • -colored construction paper
  • -crayons, paint or markers
  • -decorative (optional) materials: glitter, crepe paper or ribbons

Instructions:

  1. Cut a slit through the center of the paper plate. Leave an inch or so at the edges. Keep making similar size slits (3 more). The paper plate will look like a cake cut into even pieces.
  2. Once you’re done, bend the triangles formed by the cuts upwards to form leaf-like or spike-like shapes.
  3. Paint the crown (use any color you want), but green is great for a summer theme.
  4. Use construction paper to make and cut out paper flowers.
  5. Glue the flowers to the tips of the spikes.
  6. Use glitter or other decorative material (optional)
  7. Dry

p.s. Don’t forget that a collaboration project is a lot more fun: don’t take over the crafts session. Let your child participate and contribute even if it means the crown won’t be perfect!
