I love this city, I really do. The amount of kid-friendly things to do are astounding! Today while Mike was at his WordPress Camp, my dad and I took the kids to the Exploratorium, which was on my list to see and do. This place was indescribably amazing! There are hundreds of exhibits, and all of them are hands-on for you and your children. We actually underestimated the amount of time that it would take to explore, my dad and I spent a couple hours there, then popped over (ok, you don’t “pop” anywhere in this gigantic city) to pick up Mike at 1, then we explored with him for another 2.5 hours and we didn’t get to every exhibit! You need an entire day if you really want to explore this place properly.
The exhibits were all amazing, from the water experiments, sand experiments, machinery, to the lighting exhibits – there was one where you stood against a white screen, then a light flashed and your shadows were imprinted on the screen for a few seconds, we spent forever goofing around there- to just everything you could possibly imagine and more. It was just one huge hands-on science center, and I wish, oh how I wish, we had it at home, we would have a yearly membership. You can see the website here and take a peek at what I am talking about, its hard to explain just how much there is!
And the other favorite part which made me so jealous, is that the entire cafeteria was organic and local foods. The best fair trade coffee I have ever tasted, the yummiest organic plain popcorn that the kids loved, organic pizza….*sighs loudly with envy* and even with the exchange, really decent prices too.
The main pic of this post was taken in the area that you appear black and white in the lighting, very cool, you just walk over and poof, you are black and white, or sepia would be the best description I guess. Very cool, like living in black and white, the furniture, your kids, your clothes, alllll devoid of color.

Oh Karlynn, I know exactly what you mean – great photos, by the way! My kids could have spent an entire week in this place. Once we got home they were so excited about science that I had to do some google searching to find other science activities to keep their interest peaked. I stumbled across this website and the kids are hooked on it. Tons of free experiments. Their new favorite is sticking bars of Ivory soap in the microwave (http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/experiment/00000053) – oh the things we moms do in the name of learning! I thought maybe your kids would enjoy the site as well.
