I thought this was newsworthy, for those of you who are Albertan’s and read my site. The Stollery is a cause near and dear to my heart, and this is one heck of an easy way to make a donation without batting an eyelash or breaking the bank.
I for one, think that we can do far better than $100,00 from these bins, if the word is spread and gets out there. I hate the bottle depot, I loath standing in line waiting, I can’t stand dumping out my bottles and getting all sticky, it’s just one of those things. Yet I am a fervent bottle recycler because it needs to be done, and it turns out, so are 81% of Albertans, cheers to us!
Alberta Cans for Kids aims to raise $100,000 for Edmonton’s Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation by encouraging people to toss drink cans into specially marked bins at Alberta’s 200 bottle depots.
“Donating one can to our campaign is a simple act that every Albertan can do,” says Jeff Linton, of the Alberta Bottle Depot Association. “It’s good for the environment and it helps kids – our most important resource.”
So the idea of loading up my bottles and just dumping them into this bin in their bags without getting my hands grubby and sticky sounds so easy and lovely to me, that I personally can’t wait! The goal can be met by each house in Alberta donating one container, so I am sure it can be met and exceeded.
