Fruit Smoothies – Healthy, Nutritious, Delicious

Summertime is traditionally THE season to indulge in ice-cream, frappucinos, milkshakes and the like. Well, let’s get real: summer is no excuse for eating unhealthy, so why not try fruit smoothies as a healthy alternative? They’re refreshing, cold, nutritious, delicious and so easy to make, your kids will love them in an instant!

Here’s a very general principle of smoothie making. For 1 smoothie you will need:

  • a blender or a food processor
  • 1 cup fresh fruit (bananas, apricots, nectarines, mango, kiwi, peaches, nectarines, pineapple and any kind of berries (strawberries, blueberries, etc) are perfect ingredients – just make sure you make reasonable combos out of these)
  • 3 ice cubes
  • 1 cup yogurt, or fruit juice, or milk (skimmed, soya, organic – whatever you’re after)

Instructions: Put all of the ingredients into the blender, process until there are no visible chunks of fruit. If your smoothie is way too thick, try adding more liquid (yogurt, or fruit juice, or milk), and if you think it’s too thin, just go ahead and add more fruit.

Note: It’s also great to add something extra into the smoothie. Some like adding honey, or fresh mint, granola or even peanut butter! I don’t recommend adding sugar: if you’re going healthy, you might as well go all the way.
