Children’s Book Review:Colors

A book with this title should be spectacularly, singularly, and amazingly beautiful with the way the colors presented, because with a lot of books geared towards babies and toddler published on the very same subject, it has to be unique.
And this book is all of the above. I have this one high on my list as an excellent gift for babies and toddlers, it’s engaging, it’s oh-so colorful and it’s very interactive. You can see by this inside look at the book how vibrant the colors are, and the different directions the flaps fold out.
Each page starts with a question that the parent reading can ask the child regarding the color of the object on the opposite page. Then you open the flap, which may open up, down or to the side, which is another fantastic feature to keep it fresh and new. After all, this book is one in the Flaptastic series, so with a name like that, the flaps better not let a person down! Under the flap is the word of the color in bold print, which is an excellent way for pre-readers to start learning their sight words. You also then ask your child to identify the other objects on yet another part of the flap.
The learning in this book doesn’t end with colors, you can also include counting games as part of the fun, for example, asking your child how many blue fish they see on the page above, or to go even simpler for younger children, asking them to find the ball, and of course, providing the requisite praise when they correctly identify it!
Reading level: 1-5 years

What to expect: bright colors, bold print, sturdy and fun flap book pages
Publisher’s synopsis: This bright new series uses innovative design and big, bold flaps to introduce toddlers to basic concepts. With exciting shaped- and full-page flaps, clever die-cuts, and bouncy typography, these books are truly a flaptastic way to learn!
Flaptastic Colors looks at the different contexts and meanings that colors can have in our world-from the red of a flower to the red of a stop sign.
