Children’s Book Review: Where is Love?

The first reaction I had when I opened this book was a sigh of delight over the lovely, 50′s style illustrations. It reminded me of the children’s books back then, wonderful pale pastels done in gentle sweeps of color.

And the calm, beautiful illustrations are complimented by the sweet text that accompanies them. Leni Lovebird feels that she has no love, her song isn’t melodious like the other lovebirds, so she must be a “love bird without a love song”.

Her travels searching for love take her through the forest and talking to the other woodland creatures about what love it to them. The journey ends with her finding love nestled in the wings of her mother, safe and sound.

This is a simple story of mother/child love that even the smallest child can understand, especially while snuggled up in the arms of their own mother while reading it. The story is truly heartwarming and was a delight to read.

Publisher’s synopsis: Where is love? Leni Lovebird asks. This little bird simply must find the answer so she can create a spring love song of her very own. Leni tries to learn from her fellow forest dwellers but can’t seem to find love where the others do. Will she understand the advice of a busy mole, an old owl, a lolling turtle and a plump bee? Fly alongside Leni as she journeys far from Mother Bird, only to discover she has traced a delicate circle home.
