My children are beach babies. They could live at the beach, become one with the sand, turn into mermaids and live happily ever after. So a book with beautiful pictures depicting a sunny, sand-filled day thrills them to no end. Miranda has a lovely day at the beach, with her Mama, and seagulls and a little friend who has to return to the sea when it’s the end of the day.
The author is also the illustrator, and uses combined methods of printed collages and watercolors to create her gorgeous works.
Reading level: ages 4-8
Page Count: 32 pages
Publisher: Greenwillow (April 28 2009)
What to expect: wonderful pictures of a day at the beach. some creatures of the sea and air, Mama and Miranda having a lovely time at the beach.
Publisher’s synopsis: What makes a perfect beach day?
Seagulls squawking through the sky. A crab carrying his house. And Miranda and her friends, building a castle out of sand.
But at the end of a day at the beach, the seagulls go back to their nests, the crab goes back to the sea, the castle goes back to the sand . . . and Miranda goes back to Mama, who wraps her up in a hug when it’s time to go home. Because Miranda and Mama will always belong to each other.
Perfect.
