As we readied our 3 year old daughter for preschool, this was one of the books we chose to read to her. She had a tough time in her playgroup that she tried before this, so we were trying our hardest to prepare her for what was going to go on at her preschool. This book helped immensely, she still quotes parts of it to us when she talks about going to her preschool, and how Llama Llama was sad, but she isn’t going to be sad because she knows she will have fun there.
It is a gentle, excellent introduction for preschoolers about the emotions they might feel while attending preschool without their own Mama. Llama Llama gets ready for school by brushing teeth, eating breakfast and driving to school. I find that when you relate your own activities that you are doing in the school morning to a well loved book, it helps children transition slightly better from house to car to school. I did quote this book while dropping her off on her second day, when I didn’t stay, that Mama Llama always comes back, and before you know it, like Llama Llama, you will have had so much fun with your friends that it doesn’t even feel like I was gone.

About the Author: From her website: I come from a family of five — mom, dad, and three girls, Tanya, Anna, and Alice. My mom is a really cool mom. She is also a writer. You may have read her book, Only Brave Tomorrows, by Winifred Luhrmann. I am lucky that I still get to spend time with my mother, because my parents live nearby.
My Dad is a doctor. He reads a lot, and likes to collect books. When my sisters and I were little, he used to read to us from A. A. Milne’s POOH books. Now, whenever I read them to my own children or to myself, I hear his voice.

It's good to hear about a 'useful' book that has been used for the intended situation and everyone's come up smiling. My little ones are all grown and now having little ones of their own, but this sounds like the perfect gift.
