Children’s Book Review: I Am a Rainbow

This was a great book to read with my kids, it gives you the chance to talk about your child’s feelings in depth while reading it and relating to how the children in the illustrations feel. The way the feelings are presented in color is fantastic, for example:

“But guess what happens when my sister pulls my hair?”
“Then I turn red. I’m as angry as a bear!”

And the illustration shows a little boy very angry and red. And this is actually a situation that occurs in our house on occasion, my daughter likes to pull hair when she’s angry. Not her own, of course, but her older brothers. So I was hopeful that maybe the illustration and the text raised a wee bit of empathy in my 3 year old.

Anyone who is a fan of Dolly knows she is a sweet soul, and this book reflects her exactly; it’s sweet, kind, and loving. I think it would be the perfect gift for anyone who has kids and is a fan of hers, as well as anyone who needs a good book about feelings to read to their toddler.
