Children’s Book Review: Bird in a Bathing Suit

This was an exceptionally adorable book, I don’t often get books submitted for younger readers so it’s a pleasure when I get to review them.

Bird has on some fabulous red trunks and decides to take a dip in a bird bath at a young girls house. Unfortunately, she laughs and hurts his feelings and he flies away.

The story is cute and rhyming, with birds in all types of hilarious assorted clothing types from underwear to sweaters, but the really important underlying message is that we shouldn’t be making fun of others, laughing at them or teasing them because of what they are wearing, or for that matter, what they look like.

Simply written with wonderfully bold and colorful illustrations, children understand the message right away about not teasing others. They are sad for poor bird as he flies away with hurt feelings, all he wanted was a swim and the girl laughed at him.

Of course, in the end, she realizes the error of her ways and tells the little bird she won’t laugh at it anymore and they make amends as friends, another important moral to the story.

It’s cute, funny, has great illustrations done by Josh Will and an excellent moral to the story as well. What more can you ask for in a children’s book?
