Ants on a Log: Blueberry Style

These were a spur of the moment creation, due to the fact that we were drying blueberries at the time. My son dragged out some celery, tore off the tops, ran outside to feed them to the rabbit, and them proceeded to wash up his celery for a snack. My daughter got some celery and started dipping it in the peanut butter, using it as a spoon. Between the two actions, we figured out that maybe ants on a log could be their afternoon snack.

If you use natural peanut butter as we did, with dried blueberries that have no sugar or oils added, its one of the healthiest snacks I can think of. Unfortunately, unless you dry your own blueberries, most I have found contain hydrogenated oil used to preserve them and sugar galore to sweeten them up. So this year we purchased a food dehydrator and are drying our own. Anyone know of an affordable  brand that has no additives whatsoever for dried blueberries for those who don’t have the inclination to fool around drying berries? I say affordable because I am sure there are organic companies that make them, but I am sure that no one has a desire to get a second job to pay for dried blueberries this winter.

Alternatively this is also yummy with cranberries on top, which have sugar added, but you wouldn’t catch me eating those sour suckers without it!
