3 Part Series on Bullying: Part 2

Ouch. Touchy topic alert here. Part Two of the bullying series concerns recognizing the bully in your child. Part of me wants to be totally politically incorrect and shout “not MY kids! I read all sorts of articles and books and parent hard so that they have great self esteem and wouldn’t have to pick on others. ” (check out the list below, second to the last. Sigh.) So as much as I would like to be in denial, its an important area for all of us parents to learn and consider when thinking about our own children and their behaviors. I am really enjoying this series of articles, I think they are well written and cover a topic that has been in the news lately a lot, for tragic circumstances. So I think the more informed parents are, the better.
The article can be found here, and here is an excerpt from it with signs that none of us want to look for, but need to.
Signs your child might be a bully
Bullies are more likely than other kids to do the following:
- Smoke
- Steal
- Lack empathy
- Vandalize property
- Use illegal drugs
- Cut classes
- Drop out of school
- Have aggressive friends
- Have high self-esteem
- Be popular
Tomorrow is the last part, encouraging your witness child to stop the bullying chain, and I look forward to reading that as well.
